Marecomms was founded in December 2017 by Dr. Ulaş Güntürkün in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, as a start-up company poised for the research&development, design, and implementation of state-of-the-art maritime wireless communication and remote sensing systems. Since 2017, Marecomms has built in-house capacity for embedded implementation of efficient signal processing algorithms with a special emphasis on underwater acoustic communications. This has led to the development of ROAM as Marecomms' first product, which is currently in a prototyping stage, and is anticipated to be in the market by the summer of 2021.
About the Founder
Dr. Güntürkün received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada in 2007, where his dissertation addressed novel signal processing algorithms for the estimation and tracking of hidden inputs and states in nonlinear, nonstationary dynamic systems. For his post-doctoral work, he joined the Universite catholique de Louvain in Belgium in 2008, where he worked on the development of low-complexity Continuous Phase Modulation transmitter and receiver design, along with other aspects of contemporary communication systems until 2012. Thereafter, he received an independent research grant to continue his work on the information theoretic aspects of channels with memory. He joined Dalhousie University in 2015 as a research faculty and taught Communication Systems. He founded Marecomms in December 2017. After leaving academia in June 2018, his only focus as been on Marecomms projects.
